Effective supervision seminar experiences

I attended your ‘PhD supervisors’ workshop at Birkbeck last Thursday – just to say a sincere thank you. I found the workshop environment that you created to be incredibly stimulating and welcoming; your wisdom and experience shone through and I took away a number of concrete ideas that I'm looking forward to developing in practice. It was an excellent 'training' day, in the best sense – many thanks.

Hi John, you won’t remember me but I attended your supervisor workshop a couple of years ago when I was still fighting with my own doctorate in the US. I found the course helpful not only for supervision but also for putting my own experience in perspective. It was all excellent, spot-on stuff and a most enjoyable two days (including learning how to play croquet). I finished my PhD a couple of weeks ago and thought this was a good moment to thank you again for your great work. All best, Karin

Just wanted to let you know that the (supervising) seminar seems to have transformed the teamwork between myself and the other supervisor of my student – I am now being kept well informed of discussions between him and the student and there's really good communication and discussion between us.

I am sure this is (at least partly, but probably substantially) a result of the course and the things we all talked about. Exactly what I hoped for.

So, thanks,

Chris
